Visual Development and game development studio

Umeshu Lovers is both a visual development and a game develoment studio, founded in 2018 by concept artist Sylvain Sarrailh and game designer Arnaud Mollé.
Based in Toulouse, in a beautiful and fully equiped workshop, the team now counts around 20 persons. The art team and the dev team work together to create games with strong art direction and innovative mechanics.

🌸 Creation of the studio

Sylvain Sarrailh, concept artist since 2007 and Umeshu Lovers’ Art Direction, always had the ambition to create his own games. He made a lot of experience in the video game industry, working for big studios like Rocksteady but also on his personal projects. That project took like after he met Arnaud Mollé, an experienced game designer with a 12 years career who was also teaching at ESMA school in Toulouse.
Together, they created Umeshu Lovers, with one main goal : creating games whose strong art direction would highlight the designers’ work, and story-telling offering players a true artistic and dreamlike journey. Currently, the studio is composed of many different talents and skills, from 3D modelling to 2D painting, also including storyboarding, UX/UI design, and development.

🎨 Visual development

In the love of sheer creation and the strong remain to remain a financially independant studio in regard to its own game development activities, the art team also work for external clients and partners. Our services may vary depending on the client’s needs. They include, but are not limited to, sketches, storyboarding and layouts, up to the creation of a full art direction, regardless of the project (animated movies, book illustration, video games…).

A narrative adventure game

The Forest of Liars  is a vast, lush labyrinth known for its ethereal beauty, but no one who has ventured in has ever returned. Obviously, the forest is now surrounded by many fantasies about what its luxuriant heart might concealed. This project takes the shape of a narrative adventure game, in which the experience is different every time the player starts all over again.

As you play a young woman, you will meet up to 40 different comrades who can assist her in her journey to the heart of the woods. In its core, the game focuses on the interactions with the comrades and the different decisions you have to make in order to avoid the many traps from the forest. You do so based on your own instinct and/or what your teammates’ advice. Artistically speaking, the world of Forest of Liars is simple yet elegant, and essentially based on warm colors.

In Graine, players have to make sure a cute, smiling little seed can reach its final destination, where it will be able to blossom. Players must protect the seed from any environmental danger or immobility, tracing walls with the tip of their fingers. Walls created this way can also be used as bumpers with just one tap, giving more movement options. An option which will come handy when levels get gradually more and more challenging.
